The MG VA was the smallest of the pre-war cars produced by MG between 1937 and 1939. Also known and originally marketed as the MG 1/2-liter, the VA featured an inline four cylinder engine with twin SU carburetors that produced around 54 bhp at 4500 RPM. It was one of the first MG cars to feature a synchromesh transmission for the top two or three gears, it was equipped with large 10-inch drum hydraulic brakes, and adjustable shocks at the rear. Aimed for a luxury market, the VA was available either as a four door saloon, a four seater open tourer or as a Tickford bodied drophead coupe.
