The Oakland Motor Car Company, commonly known as Oakland, was an American automotive manufacturer that was established in 1907. Founded by Edward Murphy and Alanson Brush in Oakland County, Michigan, the company operated independently until 1909, when the passing of Edward Murphy led to the acquisition of Oakland by General Motors. The Oakland brand was placed as the entry-level offering from GM, producing a wide range of inline four, inline six, and V8 powered cars until 1931, when the brand was discontinued due to the Great Depression.
