The first generation of Oldsmobile Starfire was introduced for the 1961 model year. The Starfire name had been used prior to 1961 to designate convertible versions of the Oldsmobile 98, but from 1961, they represented a distinct model.These cars were offered in two-door hardtop or convertible body style, with two transmission options. By far the most common gearbox was the 3 speed automatic, but a very rare 4 speed manual was available in 1965 and 1966. Up until 1964, a 394ci V8 was the only engine choice, but from 1965 onwards, the sole option was a 425ci V8. Production of the 1st Gen Starfire ended in 1966, but the name was revived in 1975 for the 2nd Gen Oldsmobile Starfire.
