The 1970 Plymouth Superbird is a performance variant of the Road Runner with less than 2,000 examples built. It could be ordered with the 426ci V8 Hemi or two 440ci V8 engine options. The most popular engine was named the Commando 440ci or U code and used a four-barrel carburetor; it had the least power of the engines available at 375hp. A four-speed manual, as well as automatic transmissions, were also available. It is believed that 1,162 examples of the Superbird with the 440ci Commando engine were built.
