The first generation of Pontiac Catalina was introduced for the 1959 model year. Prior to 1959, the Catalina name had originally been used to designate hardtop body styles, but starting in 1959, the Catalina became its own model. The first generation Catalina was available with a 6.4L V8 engine, and was offered in a range of body styles, including coupe, convertible, wagon, and sedan. The first generation Catalina was in production until 1960, and was replaced by the Second Generation Pontiac Catalina.
