The 2nd Gen Pontiac Firebird had several variants, but most notably, the Trans Am remains the most popular. However, in 1976 Pontiac released a Special Edition (Y81 and Y82). This car was vaulted into stardom when making an appearance in the film Smoky and the Bandit in 1977. The black T-top car was highlighted in gold trim and Firebird graphics. From 1978-1981 the Special Edition was followed up with a similar Y84 package.
