The second generation of Studebaker Commander was introduced in 1937. This generation saw the reintroduction of the Commander name, after having been discontinued for the 1936 model year. The Commander was Studebaker's entry-level model until 1939, when the company introduced the Champion, thus making the Commander a mid-range offering, which it would be for the large part of remaining production. The second generation Commander was available in two door sedan, four door sedan, and coupe body styles, and was in production until 1941, when Studebaker suspended production of the Commander due to WW2. After the war, Studebaker would introduce the Third Generation Commander for the 1947 model year.
