The 2nd generation Toyota Supra was, much like the popular 1st generation, based on the now-redesigned 3rd generation Celica but with modifications to accomodate the variety of inline-six powerplants. Again known as the Celica Supra outside Japan (Celica XX in Japan) the Supra was designed as a coupe (lifback) with much more angular styling, including popup headlamps. 2 distinct models were available in North America - the P-type (Performance) had fender flares, wider wheels, and sportier seats. The L-type (Luxury) was mechanically identical, though the styling was geared more toward a grand-tourer. In the 1986 model year, the 3rd generation Supra replaced this model.
