The Volkswagen Beetle convertible was an open-top variant of the Volkswagen Beetle Type 1, introduced in 1938. The Beetle convertible had a rear-mounted, air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine offered in a fair range of displacements starting with the 1.1L producing 25hp all the way to a 1.6L delivering 50hp to the rear-wheels. The Beetle was also available in a two-door coupe body style. The Beetle convertible was replaced after a significant update in 1971 and was known as the Super Beetle convertible until 1980, when production ended. The Volkswagen Beetle was re-introduced in 1998 as the New Beetle convertible.
