The third generation produced from 2007 through 2016 marked the final chapter of the V70 nameplate before Volvo transitioned to the V90. On the exterior, the third-gen V70 adopted a more rounded, modern design compared to its predecessors, with flowing body lines, tall vertical taillights, and a sleeker roofline that emphasized both aerodynamics and Volvo’s estate-car heritage, through this generation continued the production of the R-Design and Cross Country. Engine options ranged from a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 180 hp, to a 3.2 L inline-six with 238 hp, and up to the range-topping 3.0L turbocharged T6 delivering 286 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Drivetrain configurations included FWD or AWD, paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or Volvo’s 6-speed Geartronic automatic, depending on trim and market.
