Preview: Monterey Auctions, 2023

Every August, the auction world convenes in Monterey, California to witness some of the biggest sales of the year. This year, there’s a record number of cars being offered at Broad Arrow, Gooding & Company, and RM Sotheby’s – while both Bonhams and Mecum are bringing less lots to the Peninsula than in the past.

As we typically see in Monterey, the make with most cars this year will be Ferrari, followed closely by Porsche. Mecum will bring primarily Chevrolet, Ford and Cadillac listings – which come in 3rd, 4th and 7th place respectively. Rounding out the top 10 makes, we find Mercedes-Benz with 7% of total listings in Monterey, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, Packard and BMW.

RM Sotheby’s leads the way in cars over $1M in value this year with 48 listings, while Broad Arrow, Gooding and Mecum follow closely with 20+ each. These vehicles represent 11% of the total offering.

RM Sotheby's also has the most cars with a value over $250K – with almost 80 listings. Gooding & Broad Arrow coming close with 40+ each. Below the $250K mark, Mecum leads the way with 400+ listings.
