BMW introduced the coupe version of the New Six in 1968. Known as the BMW New Six CS or as the E9, this group of cars was based on the New Class Coupes, yet designed to echo the styling of the New Six. Like the sedan, all New Six CS cars were fitted with different evolutions of BMW's M30 inline six engine. E9 cars featured four main variants, the 2800 CS, the 3.0 CS, the 3.0 CSi, the 2.5 CS, the 3.0 CSL and the Alpina versions. The E9 has a long and revered history as a Race Car. Produced until 1975, the E9 series of cars gave way to the first generation BMW 6 Series E24.
