Chevrolet debuted the sixth generation of Impala for the 1971 model year. The sixth generation Impala was one of the largest cars built by Chevrolet, measuring over 18 feet long. These sizeable cars were available in convertible, hardtop, sedan, coupe, and station wagon body styles, and with automatic or manual transmissions. Power came from a standard 4.1L inline six engine, but a range of optional small and big block V8 units was offered. Production lasted until 1976, and the model was replaced by the Seventh Generation Chevrolet Impala.
