The fifth generation of Chevrolet Monte Carlo was introduced for the 1995 model year. Chevrolet re-introduced the Monte Carlo after a six year hiatus, using the name for the coupe version of the Chevrolet Lumina. The fifth generation was offered as a front wheel drive, two door coupe, and was fitted with a choice of two V6 engine options. The lower tier 'LZ' trim featured the 3.1L V6, while the higher placed 'Z34' was powered by a 3.4L V6 (3.8L from 1998). Production of the fifth generation continued until 1999, when it was replaced by the Sixth Generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
