The first generation Ford Ranger was introduced for the 1983 model year. The Ranger was the successor to the Ford Courier, and was positioned as Ford's smallest pickup truck model. Ford offered the Ranger on three different wheelbases, a Standard Bed, Long Bed, and Supercab Extended Cab. Rear wheel drive was standard for the Ranger, but optional part-time all wheel drive was available. These body-on-frame trucks were powered by a range of inline four, V6 and diesel engines, and were in production until 1992, when they were replaced by the Second Generation Ford Ranger.
