By 1997 the Holden Commodore moved into its third generation spawning the VT, VX, VY, and VZ variants. This generation also created the Commodore derivatives such as the new Monaro, Crewman, Adventura, and the Ute (VU) began under its own name in 2000. The VZ variant of the Monaro coupe would be released in the U.S. as the Pontiac GTO in 2004. In 2006 the fourth generation of the Commodore launched and lasted until 2017.
