The Holden Monaro began life in 1968 as a coupe or sedan. The car resembled an American Chevy Nova of the time, which isn't surprising considering GM was the parent company to Holden. The car also housed GM powertrains such as inline six and small-block V8s. The Monaro was discontinued in 1977 and made a comeback in 2001 based on the Commodore VT. These two-door coupes were equipped with GM LS1 and LS2 motors or a supercharged V6. The HSV Coupe was a performance version of the Monaro produced from 2001-2006. This last-generation made it to the States and was badged the Pontiac GTO from 2004 to 2006 when the last Monaro was built.
