As the first Lamborghini built under new Audi ownership, the Diablo VT 6.0 had great expectations to live up to. In order to help bridge the gap between the end of the Diablo and the introduction of the Murciélago. The new Lamborghini chief designer, Luc Donckerwolke was tasked with modernizing the aging design of the Diablo. The exterior of the new VT 6.0 had a redesigned larger front bumper, featuring two large air intakes as well as repositioned indicators. New headlights were put onto the VT 6.0, while the rear lights borrowed from the Diablo GT, with fog and reverse lights integrated into the rear lamp units. Another GT inspired update was the rear bumper, which no longer had any lights, and served as a diffuser. Mechanically, the VT 6.0 was also a great evolution for the Diablo. Featuring the same 6L V12 engine as the GT, but slightly detuned for the road, the VT 6.0 produced 550hp going through Lamborghini's viscous traction system to all four wheels. While originally intended to be produced solely as a four wheel drive vehicle, the VT 6.0 was eventually offered in rear wheel drive if requested by customers.
