Mercedes-Benz introduced their W124 series of sedans for the 1986 model year. The W124 series of cars was the first to be officially named E-Class, although that naming change occured for the 1994 model year. W124 sedans were offered with a variety of inline four, inline six, and V8 engines, and were built in a wide range of variants. These variants included: 200E, 200D, E220, 230E, E280, 300E 2.6, 300E, 220E, 320E, 300E 4MATIC, 300D Turbo, 300E-24, 300D, 260E, 300D 2.5 Turbo, 300E 2.8, E200, E200D,E320, E300 Diesel, 400E, E420, 500E, and E500. These variants were built under various names due to Mercedes' naming change in 1993, as well as the fact that the company would brand the same car differently for different markets (260E in Europe, 300E 2.6 in North America). Although certain variants have multiple names, they are the same offering, sharing the same chassis code from the factory. Various AMG W124 offerings were also available, as well as the E60 AMG. Built until 1995, the W124 Sedan was replaced by the W210 Mercedes-Benz E.
