Launched in August 1973, the MGB GT V8 was a variant of the popular MG B. The GT V8 combined the stylish GT coupe body with a Rover-developed 3.5L V8 powerplant. The Rover V8 was capable of providing 137hp and launching from 0-62mpg in 7.7 seconds. Incredibly the MGB GT V8 was just a few pounds heavier than the standard GT. Besides being more powerful, the Rover V8 was made from aluminum as opposed to the GT's cast-iron block. As for the gearbox, the only offering was a four-speed manual with over-drive capable of reaching over 125mph. Production of the MG B GT V8 was heavily impacted by the 1973 fuel-crisis, with the variant discontinued in 1976.
