The MG Y-Type was produced by MG in England between 1947 and 1953. MG developed the car in the late 1930's, constructing the Y-Type's first prototype in 1939 with an intended launch shortly after in the following year, but with WWII hostilities increasing, the production of the Y-Type was postponed until 1947. Initially a four-door saloon (YA) and a four-seater convertible tourer (YT) were offered. They featured independent front suspension, a separate chassis layout with a steel bodyshell in pressed steel, a swept tail and rear wings. The engine for the saloons was a single carburetor 1250 cc engine (XPAG) with a 46 bhp output, while the YT was offered with a variant of the same engine but with higher lift camshafts and twin carburetors that resulted in a power output of 54 bhp. In 1952, MG updated the saloon and offered the YB, with an improved brake system, smaller wheels and an anti-roll bar at the front.
