The 1000SP was introduced by Abarth in 1966 as a racing prototype designed for the up to 1000cc category. Characterized by its open barchetta style body, mid rear engine and rear wheel drive, it focused entirely on lightness and aerodynamic efficiency. It was powered by a 982cc inline four engine with Weber carburetors, which developed around 105hp and was paired to a five speed manual transmission. Thanks to its extremely low weight, close to 480kg, it offered outstanding performance for its time, exceeding 220km/h, and became one of the most successful and iconic Abarth sports prototypes of the 1960s. The Abarth 1000SP was produced until 1970.
