The Audi S3 was the first of Audi’s S-line tuned A3 models, debuting in 1999 as part of the 1st Gen A3. The first S3 delivers what we expect from the S-line variant, increased performance, as well as improved dynamic abilities. These first S3s were only available in a two-door hatchback body style and were powered by a turbocharged 1.8L inline-four that ranged from 210hp to 225hp depending on the model year. Power from the engine was sent to all four wheels via Audi’s “Quattro” all-wheel-drive system paired to a manual transmission. Production of the 1st Gen Audi S3 ended in 2003, but the model series would continue production in the next generation A3 as the Second Generation Audi S3.
