Bertone Freeclimber (1989 to 1993)

The Freeclimber was introduced by Bertone in 1989. It was an exclusive SUV based on the Daihatsu Rugger, but redesigned by Bertone with a focus on luxury and elegance. It featured all-wheel drive with a low range and a 5-speed manual transmission. It used BMW engines, such as the 2.0L inline six gasoline and the 2.4L inline six, as well as less common versions with Daihatsu 1.6L gasoline and 2.7L diesel engines. The most notable thing about the Freeclimber is that it was one of the few vehicles in history to combine a Japanese base, German engineering and Italian bodywork, creating a uniquely handcrafted luxury SUV for its time. The Bertone Freeclimber was produced until 1993.
