Alpina was founded in 1965. Originally dedicated to manufacturing engine components, the company grew and began modifying BMW models. Evenually the company was registered as a manufacturer of cars due to their modification work, making Alpina a marque in its own right. Alpina works closely with BMW, even sharing assembly lines at times. Although Alpina models are usually more powerful than the cars they are based on, Alpina cars are designed to be luxurious and comfortable. Most of Alpina&#39;s engines are engineered to provide greater torque at lower RPMs, allowing their cars to perform in a refined manner. The Alpina Roadster V8 was introduced for 2003. Based on the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/bmw/z8/">BMW Z8</a>, the Roadster V8 featured vastly different dynamic characteristics. Following the Alpina tradition, the Roadster was a car more suited for grand touring than a racetrack due to modifications to improve the comfort of the car. One of these main changes was the removal of the run flat tires in favor of standard tires. The V8 engine was tuned by Alpina in order to achieve greater toque delivery in lower RPMs. At the end of Roadster V8 production, only 555 examples were built.
