Bugatti Type 57S (1935 to 1940)

Bugatti introduced their new variant of the Type 57, the Bugatti Type 57S, in 1935. The most well known variant of the Type 57, the 57S sat substantially lower than its siblings due to the driveshaft running through the chassis, allowing for a better stance, and improved aerodynamics. The 'S' in the name means "surbaissé," which means lowered in French. The most famous Bugatti Type 57 cars, the four Aerolithe/Atlanic cars, were built using the Type 57S chassis. As with the Base Type 57, the 57S was available in a handful of body styles, including the Type 57S Atalante. It was common for Type 57S owners at the time to fit a supercharger offered by Bugatti. These cars feature the letter 'C' in their name (or +C), signifying it was fitted with a "compresseur," or supercharger.
