The third generation of Chevrolet Malibu debuted for the 1973 model year. This updated generation saw the Malibu become the Chevelle's intermediate trim level, before changes in 1974 saw the 'Malibu' become the entry-level trim, while the new 'Malibu Classic' became the top variant. Coupes, sedans, and station wagons were offered, as was a wide range of V8 engines alongside a 4.1L inline six unit. Production continued until 1977, when the Fourth Generation Chevrolet Malibu was unveiled.
