The introduction of the 1955 Chevrolet Task Force truck platform provided Chevrolet even more flexibility with the heavy duty and standard variant trucks that could be built. While the light duty Apache 3100 and Cameo pickups were a big success with the public, one of the largest impacts was the introduction of the Chevrolet Small Block V8 engine. More horsepower and more torque provided even more versatility to the Chevrolet truck line up. The cab over engine (COE) trucks continued to be built for commercial applications, but Chevrolet was also able to Introduce medium duty trucks with the Viking 40,50, and 60 series and the heavy duty 70, 80, 90, and 100 series trucks making up the Spartan line. In 1958 and 1959 these medium and heavy duty series trucks also had the option of the 348ci V8 for even more power. The Standard Variants would continue with the Chevrolet C/K Heavy Dury Truck line. .
