In 1961 the latest (and last series) of the Cooper Monaco was born, the T61 was the newest evolution of the very successful sports racing car. This last generation Cooper Monaco (also known as the MKIII) had straight tubes in the frame, replacing the curves and angles. In terms of design and aerodynamics there was a wide radiator, revised body and tail fins. Suspension was revised and had coil springs and wishbones at the rear. There were a few special cars built for Carroll Shelby that carried a Ford 289ci engine and Colotti four-speed gearbox. The T61 was in production up to 1964 but was in competition until 1968.
