Ford Escort - Mk1 (1968 to 1975)

The first generation of the Ford Escort, commonly referred to as the Mk1, was introduced for 1968. The Mk1 Escort was a small family car that was available in a coupe, sedan, station wagon, and van body styles, with a range of inline four engines driving the rear wheels through manual or automatic transmissions. Although a variety of Standard Variants were built throughout production, the Mk1 Escort is most well known for its sporty variants, such as the Twin Cam, RS1600, Mexico, and RS2000. These sporty cars saw a lot of use in motorsports, notably achieving a great deal of success in rally racing. A notable Escort was the Monte Carlo, a one off built by Carrozzeria Frua. Production of the Mk1 Ford Escort lasted until 1975, when it was replaced by the Mk2 Ford Escort.
