The Mk1 European Ford Focus was introduced for 1998. Noted for its innovative styling, Control Blade independent rear suspension and agile handling, it was available in 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door sedan and wagon body styles. Versions ranged from basic trim levels like the Ambiente and Trend, to more advanced Ghia trim levels, and sportier models like the ST170 and Focus RS Mk1. Special editions were also available depending on the market. Its success lay in combining good dynamics, safety and a competitive price. The Mk1 European Focus was produced until 2004 and was replaced by the Mk2 European Ford Focus.
