Ford Mustang A/FX Drag Car - 1st Gen (1965 to 1965)

For the majority of the 1960's Ford was heavily invested in racing. From Le Mans to NASCAR and Indy to NHRA, Ford participated in a wide range of motorsports disciplines, often creating some legendary models like the GT40 and GT350R. Another notable race car created during this period is the 1965 Ford Mustang A/FX Drag Car. Created for Factory Experimental (FX) racing, the A/FX featured Ford's new "Cammer" V8 engine. This engine was a 427 cubic inch (7.0L) engine that featured Single Overhead Camshafts (SOHC) and was rated at 616hp and 515 lb ft of torque. Although the prototype A/FX Mustang was built at the Ford factory, actual production was done by Holman-Moody, a famous race shop in Charlotte, NC. Fastback body shells were sent to Holman-Moody, who installed the engine, as well as a highly specialized drivetrain and suspension that required modifications to large parts of the body. Just 15 A/FX Mustangs were built and raced.
