In 1989, Honda introduced the fourth version of 'Si' variant of the Civic. The Si, meaning "Sport Injected," is one of the top spec variants of the Honda Civic, and featured a more powerful engine as well as better interior trim and slight cosmetic updates. The Fourth Generation Civic Si was replaced by the Fifth Generation Civic Si in 1992.
