Almost 60 years after a fire at the Browns Lane factory that destroyed the final 9 (out of 25) XKSS that were planned to be completed in 1957, Jaguar announced that they would be building those destroyed cars from scratch using the original chassis numbers that were assigned back in 1957. These continuation examples were made from scratch, with every detail carefully copied from original XKSS that were thoroughly laser-scanned and studied. New engines were casted out to original specs, period-correct Dunlop tires were sourced and with the exception of the fuel tank (for safety) and seats (for a bit more comfort), these nine continuation cars are identical to the original ones produced in 1957.
