Jensen first introduced the Interceptor name for the 1951 model year. The first generation of Interceptor debuted as a series of two door grand tourers available as saloons and convertibles, as well as a sedanca coupe. These handbuilt, rear wheel drive cars were created from a wide range of Austin-sourced components, including its 4.0L inline six engine and four speed manual transmission. At the end of first generation Interceptor production in 1957, a total of 88 examples were built: 32 convertibles, 52 saloons, and 4 sedancas. Jensen reintroduced the Interceptor name for the Second Generation Jensen Interceptor.
