In 1972 the Lola T290 was born, following the great success of the T210 and T212, the T290 was a revised model for the Group 5/6 Sports Racing Cars. The T290 had a completely new chassis, revised suspension with double wishbones, coil springs over dampers and an anti-roll bar. The T290 was fitted with several different engine and gearbox combinations; they were mostly 2.0L with Mitsubishi, Cosworth-Chevrolet and Ford-Cosworth, although a V8 Cosworth DFV 3L F1 engine was also used at some point. The T290 had different evolutions throughout its life span, ranging to T292, T294, T296, T297, T298 & T299 being produced up to 1981.
