March was heavily involved in Formula 1 and single seaters, having great success in the Formula championships. It wasn't until IMSA GTP and Group C changed the regulations to see an entirely new field of cars for the 1981 season, were March emerged for these racing categories. The first march GTP was in collaboration with BMW North America; even though the car was not a success and BMW quickly dropped the program, it gave a good feedback to March in order to continue development. March quickly became a title contender with the evolution of its cars ranging from the 80G to the 85G. Several engines were used along the years including units built by BMW, Buick, Chevrolet amongst others; with the last car using a turbo-powered Buick in the hands of Gianpiero Moretti.
