The Maserati 200S was the descendant of the A6GCS. Nicknamed Tipo 52, the uber-rare and highly coveted 200S began construction in 1952 with the design led by the legendary Giulio Alfieri. The 200S was a purpose-built race car that competed in races like Imola, Targa Florio, and even Monza with Stirling Moss behind the wheel. The 200S featured a lightweight inline four-cylinder front-mounted engine that sent 190hp to the rear wheels. A four-speed synchromesh gearbox harnessed the car's power. In 1957 a slight variant called the 200SI was produced, which was given design changes to comply with racing standards. Maserati stopped construction in 1959 after just 28 cars were built. The 250S and 300S succeeded it.
