The Matra Djet was a series of compact sports cars that were introduced in 1962. The Djet was initially created by Automobile Rene Bonnet, was the worlds first production rear mid-engined road car when it was launched. After limited production under the Rene Bonnet brand, the company hit financial troubles, and Matra, who already provided the bodyshells and factory space, decided to continue production under the Matra Brand. Production of the Djet saw various evolutions, the I, II, III, IV, V, V S, and Jet 6. These cars were powered by a selection of 1.0L, 1.1L, or 1.2L inline four engines, which were all paired to a 4 speed manual transmission powering the rear wheels. Production of the Matra Djet ended in late 1967, but a few carryover examples were sold in 1968.
