The first generation Mazda MX-6 was introduced in 1987. It was a front-wheel drive, two-door sports coupe available with either 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmissions. It was powered by a range of four cylinder engines, from the 1.6L and 2.0L SOHC, to the 2.2L turbocharged (FE3-T) in GT or Turbo versions. Several trim levels were offered including the DX, LX, LE and GT, with varying levels of equipment and performance. A notable aspect of the MX-6 was its balance of comfort and sportiness, combining an agile chassis with good ride quality, making it a popular choice within the sports coupe segment in the late 1980s. The first generation Mazda MX-6 was produced until 1992.
