The second generation of the Mazda MX-6 was introduced in 1991. It maintained the format of a two-door coupe with front-wheel drive, available with a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission. It offered four and six cylinder engines, highlighting the 2.0L DOHC with 118–125hp and the 2.5L V6 with up to 164hp in the upper versions. The most common trim levels were LS, RS and LS V6, with differences in powertrains, finishes and interior equipment. A notable aspect of this generation was the introduction of the KL-DE V6 engine, renowned for its smoothness and responsiveness, which gave the MX-6 a more grand touring character without losing its sporty agility. The second generation Mazda MX-6 was produced until 1997.
