The Mercedes 28/95 hp was an early offering from the company that was introduced in 1914. It had a V-shaped radiator and the outboard exhaust tubes faired with flexible metal hoses, both characteristics of the looks for the Mercedes and Mercedes-Benz top models. The 28/95 hp was the first to have an overhead camshaft and valves arranged in V-position, the same principal used on some aircraft engines. Because of the war, few units of the 28/95 hp model were produced. When the war ended, production restarted with a modified engine. Around 600 examples of the Type 28/95 hp were produced until 1924.
