This power was sent to the rear wheels through a 7 speed automatic transmission. Over the course of production, the R 280 CDI was also available in an all wheel drive version known as the R280 CDI 4MATIC. The Mercedes-Benz R280 CDI was built until 2009 when the model was discontinued.
