The Mercedes-Benz 400SEL, later known as the S420 Long, was a variant of the W140 S-Class Sedan that debuted for the 1992 model year. The 400 SEL was offered on the long W140 platform, and was powered by Mercedes' M119 E42 engine. This 4.2L V8 engine generated 275hp, which was sent to the rear wheels via a 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission. The 400SEL became known as the S420 Long in 1993 when Mercedes changed their naming conventions, although the car offered remained the same. Production of the W140 Mercedes-Benz 400SEL / S420 Long ended in 1999 when the model series was discontinued.
