The Panhard & Levassor Type B1 was manufactured between 1899 and 1902 and became the second model from the company to receive a type certificate from the relevant national authority. Its internal code, M4E, was derived from its predecessors. The "M" designates the Phénix engine, which has a displacement of 2.4L, while the "4" indicates that the engine has four cylinders.
