Renault 5 - Race Cars (1972 to 1996)

The Renault 5 was a very successful model for Renault in terms of sales, but perhaps the greatest legacy of the 5 was its racing history. While standard variants such as the GT Turbo featured a front-mounted engine, the Turbo 1 and Turbo 2 featured a mid mounted engine which gave the car great weight distribution, making it an ideal race car. These race cars participated in a wide range of motorsport, but the Renault 5 had the greatest success in rally racing, where the 5 was part of the power-crazy Group B category.
