The Third Generation of Renault Clio was introduced for the 2006 model year. Known as the Clio III, the 3rd Gen Clio saw the model increase in size over its predecessors. Notably, the Clio III was built using the Nissan B Platform, as at the time, Renault and Nissan had a strong collaboration. It was built in a two or four door hatchback body style as well as a station wagon (estate) body style. A range of gasoline and diesel inline four engines were offered, as were manual or automatic transmissions. The sporty Renault Sport (RS) Clio continued as the most desirable variant. The Clio III was built in two main evolutions, Phase 1 (Aug 2005 - Aug 2009) and Phase 2 (Aug 2009 - Aug 2012). Although full-scale production of the 3rd Gen Clio was wound down in late 2012 in preparation for the next gen Clio IV, the Clio III was still sold in France and Spain as the Clio Collection until 2014.
