Renault introduced the Clio Williams in 1993. This special edition hatchback was named after the Williams F1 Team, which used Renault F1 engines at the time. Although named after Williams, the car had no direct engineering input from the team or engineering firm. Powered by a 2.0L 16 valve inline-four engine, the Clio Williams produced 145hp running the front wheels. Over the course of production, the car went through 3 series, the first was the intended original run of 3,800 cars, featuring a numbered plaque in the interior. The second and third series featured minor saftey and cosmetic evolutions, but were largely similar to the originals. The third series was painted in a slightly different shade of blue than previous Clio Williams cars.
