The acquisition of NSU by Volkswagen (VW), in 1969 represented a turning point for VW. It was the first time that VW manufactured a front-wheel drive vehicle with a front-mounted and water-cooled engine. The K70 was a small simple four door sedan or two door wagon that was originally designed by NSU. The car's modest inline four engine only produced 70hp. The car eventually gave way, in 1975, to the VW Passat and the Audi 80.
