Volvo 244 (1975 to 1993)

The Volvo 244 was a variant of the Volvo 200 Series that debuted for the 1975 model year. The 244 was built in a sedan body style, and was available with Volvo's 'Red Block' engine, which was an inline four ranging from 1.8L to 2.3L in displacement. The 244, whose name stands for 200 Series, 4 cylinders, 4 doors, was a rear wheel drive car offered with manual or automatic transmissions. In 1985, Volvo changed their naming system, resulting in all four cylinder 200 Series cars being known as 240, with there no longer being a designation for body style in the name. With this name change, the 244 became the 240 sedan, which was built until 1993.
